“No
one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his
head on his old, familiar pillow.” – Lin Yutang
Travelling isn’t just
about going to far-flung places or the ends of the Earth. I grew up and still
live in Christchurch, and as you may or may not know, much of the city centre
was destroyed by earthquakes four years ago. Being that the anniversary for the
devastating quake has just passed, recently I decided to go for a wander around
town and check it out. I went in with the mindset to focus on the art and the
positive movement and less on the cranes and empty lots.
{Cardboard Cathedral}
{Stairs reimagined}
{We got the sunshine}
It was really nice to just
go for a bit of an explore on my own to take it all in. There’s so much cool
and colourful art on the sides of buildings, and even on the fencing surrounding
the buildings slated for demolition.
{Side of the lululemon container}
I went for a proper
explore through the Re:Start mall. If you’ve never seen it before, it’s
basically shops and cafes inside brightly coloured shipping containers (lululemon
and coffee, I couldn’t help myself!).
{Christchurch Cathedral}
{Rock art in Cathedral Square}
{Colourful tiles on a fence}
I cut together a little video of what I
saw and put it in below. If you’ve got a couple of minutes to watch, I’d really
appreciate it.
Hope you’re having a good
day. And remember, you can always have an adventure right where you live. You
just have to go out and find it!
Love times infinity,
Justine x
