After Paihia, we travelled down to Thames. Since there’s not a whole lot in the town we spent most of the two
days up the coast in Hahei. On the first day we got decked out in our gym
clothes and lots of sunscreen (it was like 30 degrees that day, but felt like a
million!), and headed over to Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve. Tip: If you don’t
get there at a ridiculously early time, don’t even bother driving up the hill!
There’s a carpark on the grass at the bottom. Park there and pay the $3 to jump
on the A/C-less bus. It was worth it on the way back when we were boiling and our legs felt
like jelly!
{View at the beginning of the trail}
We hopped off the bus at the top, got onto the trail and
walked over to Cathedral Cove. It doesn’t take 20 minutes like it’s signposted
to, but some of the trail is a bit dodgy to say the least (it might take that long if there's little kids with you though).

{That view!}
{Wish I had my togs! Look a bit out of place in leggings on the beach}
But let me tell you,
the views are absolutely worth the work and the sweat. Plus you get to see where part of The Chronicles of Narnia was filmed. That's probably why it looks familiar!
{Cooling off on the way back at Stingray Bay}
Oh and P.S.: wear your togs so you can swim at the end of the walk! That’s a lesson learned the hard way on my part.
Love times infinity,
Justine x
